Dudu Mkhize as Queen Nandi, Shaka Zulu (1986).

The name

Nandi was a queen who never asked permission: the mother of Shaka Zulu, and a fierce leader in her own right. We carry her name because our artists share her nerve. They make bold work where there is no easy road for art, and too many barriers keep it from being seen in the places it deserves. We exist to change that.

Most of our work comes from Africa. We started in Zimbabwe, our founder’s home, and the collection now reaches from Zanzibar to Ubud in Indonesia.

Why we exist

We represent the underrepresented.

Great artists are everywhere, and we bring their work to the world it deserves.

“It has been a privilege to grow up as a Zimbabwean who has been fortunate to see so much more of the world, not only diversifying my viewpoint but really expanding my appreciation for what Africa has to offer. It is my desire, and to some degree I feel my responsibility, to start an exhibition platform for Zimbabwean and African artists alike, and create a space that incites and engages art lovers around the world. Art is my passion and The House of Nandi’s aim is to be a looking glass into Africa’s creative expression.”

How we work

We go to the studios

We sit with the artists, watch them work and learn how they see the world.

We choose by hand

Every piece is picked in person. Every painting is one of a kind; prints are numbered editions.

We bring it to Dubai

Over 50 works are in Dubai today, with hundreds more in the artists' studios.

You see it on your wall

In the UAE we bring a shortlist to your wall before you decide, then deliver and hang it. Anywhere else, we ship.
